Our Top Ten Video Games of 2018, so far.

For the most part of 2018 we’ve seen some really good titles coming out, rapidly gaining popularity among gamers around the world and rising the bars on Metacritic. Sadly we couldn’t play all of them because of course, we don’t live for gaming (we wish). Despite our parenting obligations and other priorities, we managed to get our hands on a handful of titles during the year. Of the ones that we actually played, here is our top 10 pick of 2018 video games (so far).

God of War

With a metascore of 94 based on 110+ critics around the web, you can’t go wrong by picking up Kratos return to arms. This is easily one of the best games you’ll ever play God knows until when.

The last installment in the God of War series is set in the far Norse Lands, away of the traditional mythological creatures, putting Kratos against unfamiliar odds and now with extra work as a father of a young Atreus.

It’s so good the physical copy of the game is always on shortage. You can grab a copy both physical and digital on Amazon.

Spider Man

The guys at Insomniac did a terrific job on this one. Forget about the visual downgrade it has, this game is tons of fun with plenty of hours of playtime. Moreover, you’ll have the opportunity to play the entire game all over again with all your gains in the newly added New Game Plus mode.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is set in an open world styled New York City full of life and stuff to do. The main story is lightly complex so veteran’s fans and new comers can grab the sense of it in no time. The Mechanics of the game are also a plus, with fluid movements during combats and a vastly sense of freedom during free roam exploration.

With 3 DLC’s coming out shortly, we strongly recommend that you grab THIS copy of the game. The reason is simple: you will get the complete experience by the time you buy it with tons of extra content including new story missions, side quests, activities and suits, lots of suits!

Monster Hunter World

What makes this one so special is the fact that it is the most accessible MH game in the whole series. Improved in game controls, mechanics and a new array of monsters to hunt are just some of the goodies that Capcom packed in this game. And while the story could feel a bit short compared to others RPG’s, the end game and post-game is where Monster Hunter World shines on its own.

The game is also available for PC so no excuses this time for master race gamers out there. Grab your copy now or plan a gift for self or for someone else on Christmas!

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Lara Croft is back! Following the success of the critical acclaimed Tomb Raider and it successor, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Square Enix and the guys at Eidos Montreal bring back our favorite heroine once more in a whole new adventure full of exploration, secrets and 3rd person platforming in a rich new setting.

The new game offers improved mechanics, a photo mode, the all mighty “machete” and tombs, lots of tombs. Maybe the most welcomed improvement is the fact that you can play through the tombs at your own phase, meaning that the player can adjust the challenge difficulty for every tomb independently.

You can grab your Shadow of the Tomb Raider copy here.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

I’m a sucker of Greek mythology so for me this is THE GAME. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is set in 431 BCE, four hundred years before the events of Assassin's Creed Origins. It recounts the secret fictional history of the Peloponnesian War, which was fought between the city-states of Classical Greece. Odyssey places more emphasis on role-playing elements than previous games in the series. The game contains dialogue options, branching quests, and multiple endings, and of course, the ability to choose the gender of the main character, adopting the role of Alexios or Kassandra for the first time in the series.

The game has a Metacritic score of 83 which is really good. Grab your copy now.

Octopath Traveler

The JRPG genre is not dead. Octopath Traveler is a role-playing game exclusive of Nintendo Switch that sports a graphical aesthetic known as "HD-2D", which is defined by the developers as combining 16-bit Super NES-style character sprites and textures with polygonal environments and high-definition effects, which creates a unique atmosphere that resemble the good old days of classic turn based JRPG’s.

The game is so popular that it sold 188,238 physical copies within its first two months on sale in Japan, and placed at number one on the all-format sales chart. By August 2018, the game had sold over a million copies worldwide.

Mario Tennis Aces

I’m not into sports games at all, hence the reason why this list lacs of the classic NFL, NHL or 2K games. But with Mario Tennis Aces, I made an exception. It’s thought to be amongst some of the better games in the Mario Tennis franchise, being considered an improvement over Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash thanks to the new and improved in game mechanics that help made the game more appealing and more fun.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

Fast phased action? Check. Great visual effects? Check. All your favorite anime characters in one game? Check.

Dragon Ball FighterZ received positive reviews from critics, with many citing the game as one of the best fighting games released in the eighth generation of video game consoles. The game's fighting system, character roster, visuals and music were all highly praised while its story mode and online functionality were subject to criticism.
Into the breach

Into the Breach is set in the far future where humanity fights against an army of giant monsters collectively called the Vek. To combat them, the player controls soldiers that operate giant mechs that can be equipped with a variety of weapons, armor, and other equipment. The game uses a turn-based combat system, allowing the player to coordinate the actions of their team in response to enemy moves and actions that serve to telegraph their attacks.

Into the Breach received praise upon its release, holding a 90 out of 100 on review aggregation site Metacritic and is the site's best reviewed PC game for 2018.

The reason this game is part of this list is because how well it plays on the Switch. You will want to carry it everywhere!

Forza Horizon 4

Horizon 4 is a must for any racing games fan out there.

Set in an open world environment based in a fictional representation of the United Kingdom and features over 450 licensed cars. An update to the game on 25 October 2018 will feature a route creator which enables players to create their own races.

If you have an XBOX ONE, this is a good addition to your library!

There’s still a lot to be played. Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 promise to be a new breed for open world gaming while Nintendo is surely returning big with Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. We’re going to try those for sure, but you’ll have to wait for that list to come. In the meantime, please do yourself a favor and grab one of the above if you haven’t played them at all.
