After the tremendous success with our previous post of the F-14A Tomcat MOC by Flickr user crash_cramer, we decided to give it a try once again, looking for extreme, complex and ridiculous LEGO creations by some common guys like you and we. This time we share with you yet another interesting project that pays homage to one of the most renowned toys and cartoons character ever: Autobots leader Optimus Prime!
It's creator, the talented Mr. Ralph Savelsberg documented some small parts of it's construction process on his Flickr account.
Savelsberg did an awesome job by replicating the Michael Bay version of Optimus and the best and perhaps the most incredible feature of this replica is the fact that it actualy transforms!
"Its transformation is doable in LEGO, but it is horrendously complicated and awkward and some bits will inevitably fall off in the process. I'll likely revisit this at some point to add a more Technic structure to it." her wrote in his account.
It is a really large model at it is heavy (1/22, 45-50 cm in robot mode). It can actually stand up without support, though, albeit precariously. I couldn't have done this a few years ago.
